Kathryn I. Hopping
Kathryn Hopping is a partner specializing in complex commercial litigation with an emphasis in construction defect litigation. For the past ten years, she has represented clients in a wide range of construction matters, representing large commercial developers, designers, as well as individual homeowners. Kathryn has litigated both design and construction defect issues on a variety of projects, including large subdivision development and road construction, deterioration of concrete and commercial parking garages, design and construction of single family residences and mechanics lien disputes. In addition to construction and design disputes, Kathryn has experience in a broad range of litigation matters, including contract disputes, fraud and civil theft, landlord-tenant disputes, as well as real estate and land use litigation. She also has considerable experience in First Amendment and religious rights litigation, being one of the few attorneys in the United States to try a federal case under the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act, where she successfully represented a religious institution seeking redress for free speech, right to assembly and religious rights violations. Kathryn has successfully argued many cases in Colorado Appellate Courts.
In addition to litigation in both state and federal courts, Kathryn has significant experience resolving matters through alternative dispute resolution, helping clients resolve disputes through both mediation and arbitration and avoiding litigation where possible.
Kathryn graduated in the Order of St. Ives from the University of Denver School of Law, where she also served on the Moot Court Board. She received her undergraduate degree in political science and sociology from Colorado State University. Prior to law school, Kathryn also spent a year as a research assistant and speech writer for a member of Parliament in London.
Kathryn was named a 2010 Super Lawyers Colorado Rising Star.
